Educator of the Year Award

The Educator of the Year Award is given to a Wisconsin K-12 educator who has demonstrated a commitment to promoting just and respectful schools for all, with an emphasis on LGBTQ+ youth and topics.  Survey after survey demonstrate that knowing even just one supportive adult at school makes a significant difference for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies in regard to their sense of belonging at school as well as their future aspirations.  Additionally, the inclusion of positive portrayals of LGBTQ+people, issues, and history in the classroom curriculum increases LGBTQ+ students’ sense of safety and belonging, their school attendance and GPA, and future aspirations.  GSAFE seeks to honor the critical impact educators have on LGBTQ+ students and their allies through this award.
