Safe and Supportive Elementary Schools

Everyday across Wisconsin, in districts large and small, educators and administrators are making important decisions about how to support and be inclusive of family diversity. Schools are educating children with same-sex parents and LGBTQ family members, children who are transgender and gender nonconforming, and children who might be LGB themselves.  This workshop will:

  • highlight best practices for supporting these students
  • provide time for participants to explore school and classroom resources
  • allow participants opportunities to apply new learning to situations and scenarios playing out in schools and districts

“Words Hurt Week helped me discover the importance of intersectionality within all social movements – recognizing that we cannot make progress within the queer community without also examining the systems that impact other oppressions.”  Maria, Former GSAFE Youth Activist
